Harry Potter is teaching diversity!
Seriously! This was just too good not to post!
So one of my field placements for my MSW program is at an experiential learning facility called Base Camp (www.base-camp.us, for some reason I can't figure out how to create a hyperlink). And, per my tradition of studying inequality and diversity (once labeled as "studying depression...that is, how to be depressed!"), I was looking for activities to do with high schoolers as this is a subject their teachers want addressed. So I searched around...and rambled on blogs... and suddenly
HARRY POTTER BECAME AN EDUCATIONAL TOOL!!!!
Seriously! (whoa, too "seriously"s) Check out this activity from the "Teaching Tolerance" (www.tolerance.org) website:

Now if only I could get everyone from Palmer 5 to come into these classrooms with me and jump up and down (or give weird looks to the people who are jumping up and down; could make it something of a stand up routine) and get the kids excited about activities.
And now, taco night.
Cheerio!

I think The Tigers are teaching diversity...when people who are inept see that the Tigers get to be a major league baseball team, I think they gain confidence and start to believe that they too can practice hard and someday be able to have like 13 straight losing seasons in the sport of their choice...so yeah, the Tigers new slogan: "The Detroit Tigers: Making Losers more comfortable in every day losing situations...GRRRRRRRRR!!!"
